Local Organization Provide Thanksgiving Meals

    Businesses and organizations in Ithaca and Tompkins County are celebrating the season of (thanks)giving this year by providing free meals for the holiday. Among these is a collaboration between Mutual Aid Tompkins and Luna's Inspired Streetfood to give out preordered Thanksgiving meals on Tuesday.

    Mutual Aid Tompkins and Luna's worked together on providing Thanksgiving meals last year as well. In 2020 they distributed approximately 500 meals, and this year they are giving approximately 585 meals, according to a Mutual Aid Tompkins representative.

    Registration to receive a free meal is currently paused because they have reached the limit of how many meals they can provide. However, they would be able to give more meals if they received more donations for food.

    The meals come in single servings or family sizes and will include roast turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls and butter. People will receive their meals via pickup or delivery.

    Luna's is also going to stock some of the food sharing cabinets with Thanksgiving meals. Food sharing cabinets are located throughout the county and are self-serve resources where people can pick up or drop off food 24/7. Luna's will drop off meals at the blue cabinets located at 215 First Street and the Varna Community Center.

    There are food sharing cabinets organized by Mutual Aid Tompkins in Ithaca, Brooktondale, Danby, Enfield, Newfield, Trumansburg, Etna, Freeville, Lansing, Dryden, Groton, McLean, Slaterville, Truxton, Virgil and Cortland.

    Crossroads Bar & Grille is also going to provide Thanksgiving meals this year. They will be delivered on Thanksgiving Day to Lansing residents who request it by Nov. 24 via the Crossroads Bar & Grille Facebook page:

    Other organizations that are providing Thanksgiving meals include Loaves and Fishes of Tompkins County and the Salvation Army. Loaves and Fishes will provide its annual Thanksgiving dinner for takeout 5:30–6:30 p.m. Nov. 24. They will also be open for lunch 12–1 p.m. Nov. 25 as they are each Wednesday, but they will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. In general Loaves and Fishes provides free meals Monday–Friday each week.     The Salvation Army location at 150 North Albany St. will be providing free Thanksgiving meals for takeout 12-1 p.m. Thanksgiving Day. People can call 607-273-2400 by Nov. 25 to order a meal.
